Research and Innovation – ITW Jules

Jules, Peaks Research and Innovation Manager

Can you tell us about your position as Research and Innovation Manager at Peaks?

My main mission is to create, lead and manage the Research and Innovation unit, and his innovative projects at Peaks, internally, with our employees. The first condition for this was to set up the necessary infrastructure internally (notably our own Gitlab) but also a working method adapted to the functioning of these projects. Today, I am mainly occupied with BeeObs, a project that aims to reduce bee mortality. I invest myself in it both in terms of management and as a developer. I also ensure a technical watch and very active research on the various technologies present at Peaks. Firstly for the purpose of sharing knowledge, but also to find relevant research areas for Peaks' next R&I projects.

What gets you up in the morning?

A good awakening coupled with the motivation to participate in a research project such as that of BeeObs. More broadly, it's the opportunity to work on several challenges around development, research, management, etc. So little routine and a lot of diversity in my functions!

Where does your interest in research come from?

What I like the most in development is the prototyping, discovery stage. In most projects, this is a stage mainly concentrated at the start of the project, which must be completed as quickly as possible. In the context of research, this step is much more important, since prototyping, at the heart of innovation, is done on technologies, methods, innovative techniques, therefore new on which we have no hindsight.

What project are you most interested in at Peaks?

Unsurprisingly the BeeObs! Already for its objective of saving the bees and because it is very challenging. It is a really complete research project, in terms of technical and theoretical challenges, and which even requires some knowledge of the beekeeping profession. It will be a high-flying model to follow for the next R&I projects that will be launched by our unit.
