ITW Matthieu at DT

Matthieu, technical director at Peaks

Can you present your background?

I started my career with some Java development but also support and operation after a DUT in Computer Science.

I resumed my studies in a generalist engineering school EPMI (ECAM group) to integrate, as an analyst and development, Stanley Security (formerly ADT) a rich profession around the security of goods and people.

I had different roles: Functional Analyst, Developer but also Project Manager (service provider follow-up, progress, etc.), Data Architect, Software Architect and Information System Migration Manager.

I joined Altran in the Digital Factory where I was able to work for major accounts on digital transformation and software development support and see the other side of the customer/supplier relationship.

With my technical skills and exchange with all trades: Helpdesk, Operation, System & Network, functional, project manager, project management, embedded development, Web development, data, ... but also the sales department, administration sales, customer relations, logistics, accounting, purchasing, management control and management, I joined Peaks to embody the technique internally. Here I am today Technical Director at PEAKS, a consulting, management and creation company for innovative digital solutions.

What does your job as Technical Director consist of?

The technical direction at PEAKS is made up of 6 employees today who work on 3 axes

  • Peaks IS: develop (“digitalize”) and maintain the Peaks information system (PC/telephone fleet management, support, IS security, provision of services to users, etc.)
  • The Research and Innovation unit: Promote and carry out innovative projects on future technologies (eg: BeeObs is a project to reduce bee mortality with offline voice recognition on mobile in partnership with Au Rhythm of Bees and the community beekeeper and researcher)
  • Consulting expertise:
Internally to popularize the technique, follow trends, support on career plans and training, participate in recruitment
Externally to understand customer issues, audit and advise customers

What is your typical day at PEAKS?

There is no typical day, every day is different but a caricature would be:

  • A point with the more or less formal team
  • Monitor, support and arbitrate issues
  • Meet a client to present our know-how, have technical and organizational support for needs
  • Discuss with a consultant on his subjects or his training wishes
  • Carry out rapid interventions on aspects: functional, dev, archi or on internal projects
  • Discuss with Peaks support services: HR, communication, agencies, management control, etc.
  • Managing an IT supplier
  • Give a candidate a technical test

Why is your role as Technical Director important?

I am the representative of all the technical and functional knowledge of Peaks.

Our team is a pillar for our salespeople & managers who rely on us to demonstrate our know-how, understand the problems of customers and consultants.

We support and challenge consultants in the field to help them in their missions and in their careers.

What qualities should you have?

Pedagogue: to reformulate or explain a problem

Humble: consultants are experts in their fields

Curious / critical: in computing, technologies evolve rapidly. The needs are multiple and changing. We must constantly ask ourselves questions and keep watch.

Charismatic: you have to know how to federate/delegate without directing

What do you like about your missions?

The diversity, the complexity of the subjects and the speed of evolution in this field (which remains young and which can be improved) are exciting aspects.

The accompaniment of people and the transmission of knowledge are very enriching missions and allow us every day to question ourselves and evolve.

If you had one thing to change in your job, what would it be?

I would lengthen the days because I am passionate about my job.
