1/ What does the job of Scrum Master consist of?

The business of Scrum Master consists of being a Conductor / Facilitator / Coordinator and come in support of the Project Manager. It has been noted that the improvement of collective work processes is closely linked to elements allowing both the fluidity of communication but also the framing of priorities, the establishment of rituals, all this in an environment conducive to continuous learning. Scrum is there to meet these objectives and limit implementation errors.

2/ What is the course to do this job?

In my personal experience, a diverse background can be appropriate. Be guarantor of the proper functioning of the collaboration, is to succeed in convincing the people involved of the legitimacy of the working methods. For this, it is necessary have cross-functional experience to identify the ins and outs of the actors of a project. Going through multiple professions and being at the crossroads of different departments of a company can help to assimilate the needs inherent to each employee and also to the construction of a collective objective. Knowing who is working, where, on what, with what and why is necessary to identify the information circuit and understand the needs. For example, I find that knowledge of information systems can be useful.

From the almost complete curiosity to detect the profiles and qualities of employees, the sense of observation, critical mind, a good listening and synthesis capacity and benevolent and unifying personality would be the right ingredients. Of the knowledge of behavioral psychology and non-violent communication are recommended.

3/ What do you like?

I enjoy working with different profiles and continually learning both operationally and humanly. Find the levers of motivation and commitment of the people I work with for combine fulfillment and personal emulation for everyone. To be able to measure the result of a successful collaboration or in some cases, identify the factors of frustration. To feel useful in the cohesion of a group of people and the smooth functioning of their interactions.

4/ What qualities do you need to have to be Scrum Master ?

Patience, perseverance, understanding, empathy and a spirit of synthesis. Know how to appeal to collective intelligence, and philosophical sense in the development of thought. Above all a good sense of personal organization.

5/ What are the tools to master?

6/ A good memory to share as Scrum Master ?

In my current project, the working conditions require knowing how to put your head down a bit. Fortunately, I have colleagues with whom we can also share a little levity. So my good memories are quarters of an hour of madness/coffee break with the QA, the UX designer, and developers who never fail to tease me. Often it is the Peaks friends from elsewhere. Laughter is essential especially at this time.
